A woman identified as Celeste Chambers in a bid to pay her house rent , allowed three men rape her daughter in return for scrap metal and drugs.
She was convicted Thursday, after jurors heard harrowing testimony from the unnamed victim about how she was pimped out to pedophiles ‘at least twice a week’ in return for cash or goods, and warned by her mother ‘You aren’t supposed to talk about it.’
Chambers’ victim was molested between 2003 and 2016, with the abuse finally ending for good in June 2017 after Chambers was arrested, WTXL reported.
The girl’s grandmother, Barbara Lemieux, told the court in Tallahassee, Florida, how the child came to stay with her after Chambers was arrested, and recalled how the traumatized youngster was often unable to sleep at night.
Heartbreakingly, the girl was so badly brainwashed by her mother that she initially refused to reveal the abuse she had suffered when questioned by social workers, fearing that doing so would get her into trouble.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, prosecutor Anna Norris told the court: ‘This child has gone through a nightmare her entire life at the hands of her mom and she was trafficked. Norris also highlighted how the case had illustrated that victims can be trafficked by their loved ones without leaving home.
Chambers will be sentenced for human trafficking Monday, with her daughter set to give a victim impact statement before she goes to jail.
Her ex-husband, Kevin Wyatt, admitted child abuse charges in 2018 over his treatment of the youngster.
