Ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Leicester on Monday evening, Unai Emery has revealed he tried to sign Alexandre Lacazette when he was PSG boss.
‘He was playing at Olympique Lyon, and it’s not easy to sign one player from Olympique Lyon to Paris’
Speaking about trying to sign Lacazette from Lyon, Emery stated:
“The first year when I arrived in Paris, we were thinking about signing Lacazette. We liked his quality and his characteristics also at PSG.
“And all the people working there they said to us, this is the player [who has] the quality to play at PSG.
“[But] he was playing at Olympique Lyon, and it’s not easy to sign one player from Olympique Lyon to Paris.”
Emery also commented upon Lacazette continuing to adapt to the Premier League:
“For him last year was his first year in the Premier League, so a different league than the French.
“He needs to continue his adaptation for us, for the Premier League. But I think this year we are looking at him [to take] one step more in this level.
“We are very happy [with him], but my message to him is: every day, don’t stop. Don’t stop in the training, don’t stop in the matches, carry on finding his best performance.
“But not [just] each match, each minute in the 90 minutes. And I think he’s doing that.”
Alexandre Lacazette impresses under Unai Emery
There is no question Arsenal are undergoing a transformation under Unai Emery.
After losing their first two games, Arsenal have continued to improve game by game and are currently on a nine-match unbeaten run.
One player who has been particularly impressive under Emery is Lacazette.
In his first league start of the season, Lacazette would score and assist as Arsenal beat Cardiff 3-2.
The Frenchman has also scored vs Everton, earned an assist vs Watford and scored a brace vs Fulham in the league.
