Two persons were confirmed dead while at least eight others are injured following a shooting in France near a Christmas market in Place Kleber, Strasbourg.
The gunman is still said to be on the run in the area, however he has been identified and is known to police for criminal activity.
France’s interior minister said at least two people have been killed in the shooting and up to eight have been wounded – with several in critical condition, he warned that the residents should remain indoors.
Videos taken show a woman screaming and others running for cover. Local journalist Bruno Poussard said that there had been a dozen shots fired.
A source at the prosecutor’s office said the motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear and that an investigation was under way to see if it was terrorism-related.
