Solskjaer tells Man Utd chiefs to sign Liverpool target to replace Ander Herrera

Manchester United are interested in signing PSG contract rebel Adrien Rabiot with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly a fan of the French midfielder.

Rabiot was not part of the PSG squad that were knocked out of the Champions League by United earlier this month, having been demoted to the reserves after making it clear he would run down his contract and leave on a free transfer.

He had been expected to join Barcelona, though that deal now appears to be dead, and looks likeliest to move to the Premier League with Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs all interested.

But now The Sun report that United are positioning themselves to make a play for Rabiot, who is demanding wages of around £200,000-a-week and a £10m signing-on fee.

That is not a problem for United, with Solskjaer willing to pay up for a player he believes has great ability.

Rabiot was a key part of PSG’s midfield until it became clear he would not renew his deal and the decision to ostracise him was made by sporting director Antero Henriquez not manager Thomas Tuchel.

The 23-year-old has a reputation for being a difficult character, with Didier Deschamps electing not to call him up for France, while he went out to a nightclub straight after United beat PSG.

Nevertheless, United are on the lookout for a ‘midfield link player’ for the long-term, with Nemanja Matic 30 years old and Ander Herrera out of contract in the summer himself.

Solskjaer is interested in Rabiot to fill that position, especially if Herrera cannot be persuaded to sign a new deal, though they will face significant competition from the likes of Liverpool – who Rabiot actually supported when he was growing up.
