Just days after members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria protested at the national assembly, they decided to return to the streets of the nation’s capital, Abuja to protest the continued detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
The Police fired tear gas canisters to disperse them while some members of the group were arrested.
In their last protest, several vehicles were damaged while five policemen were injured during a similar clash at the national assembly.
Forty suspects were arrested in connection with the Tuesday incident.
According to the FCT police spokesman, Mr. Anjuguri Manzah, those arrested have been arraigned at several courts within the nation’s capital.
