Paul Pogba responded to Jose Mourinho’s sacking by shouting ‘he f***ed with the wrong baller’, according to reports.
In astonishing scenes at Manchester United’s training ground, Michael Carrick reportedly intervened and reminded the midfielder that nobody is bigger than the club.
Mourinho and Pogba endured a factitious relationship at Old Trafford, with public bust-ups and training ground spats contributing to the Portuguese manager’s downfall.
Towards the end of his Red Devils tenure, Mourinho repeatedly benched Pogba for big games, including the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
And according to The Sun, Pogba led euphoric scenes at Carrington on Tuesday morning when news of Mourinho’s sacking was announced.
He allegedly shouted: “He thought he could make a fool of me and turn the fans against me. He f***ed with the wrong baller.”
Carrick, who was placed in temporary charge for 48 hours, reportedly told the players that their position at the club was not safe either unless they started meeting Man United’s high standard.
Meanwhile, Mourinho issued a statement saying he will not be drawn into comments about his relationship with certain individuals at the club.
He said: “I have been immensely proud to wear the badge of Manchester United since the first day I arrived, and I believe all United fans recognise this.
“Each time a chapter is closed, I show my deepest respect by not making any comments about my former colleagues.”
The Sun report that the only player not to partake in the celebratory scenes at Carrington was Romelu Lukaku, who was signed by Mourinho for £75million in the summer of 2017.
