It was an horrific sight to behold in Asaba after a driver that is yet to be identified is confirmed dead after his vehicle fell off Interbua Flyover in Asaba, Delta State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around 8.30pm on Thursday, while the deceased was driving a truck.
An eyewitness told newsmen on condition of anonymity that there were four occupants in the vehicle, including the driver, when the accident occurred.
He said, “The driver was travelling at high speed, and was making a phone call when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck fell off the flyover and he died on the spot, while the three others were seriously wounded.
He added that the victims were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.
“The driver of the truck died at the hospital around 9.30pm.”
According to the Director General of Delta State Traffic Management Agency, Mr. Stephen Dieseruvwe, he said, “Before my men got to the scene of the accident this morning (Friday), the truck had been removed. We don’t know the number of casualties involved. We have taken the picture of the damaged flyover and we will get to the route of the incident.”
He also confirmed that at least four persons were injured in the incident. No fewer than three shops and a commercial bus with passengers were crushed by the truck. In one of the shops, a barbing salon, there were residents and students charging their mobile telephones.
