Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals why he knew Man Utd would draw Barcelona


Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he knew fate would hand him a return to Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Manchester United take on the Catalan giants next month after their dramatic last-16 success against Paris Saint-Germain.

It will see Solskjaer return to the scene of his career-defining moment for the second leg at the Nou Camp on April 16.

The Norwegian scored his injury-time winner against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final to seal a historic treble at the ground 20 years ago.

After being handed an emotional return when his side were pulled out of the hat on Friday, Solskjaer admitted “it had to be”.

“Yes, it had to be [Barcelona]!” He told Manchester United’s official website .

”I’ve had so many texts from friends saying this year is going to be the year that we’ll get through because of my number, 20, and it being 20 years ago.

“We’re off to the Nou Camp again!”

Solskjaer’s late winner at the Nou Camp in 1999 was undoubtedly the greatest moment of his career – and still one which lives long in the memory two decades later.

The club will celebrate the anniversary of the occasion with a legends’ match featuring the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers on May 26 at Old Trafford.
