LASU lecturer gets dismissed after he was caught in the act

The Governing Council of the Lagos State University ( LASU) confirmed the dismissal of three lecturers for sexual harassing female students and also for gross misconduct.

The decision was taken by the council at its 119th statutory Meeting held on Thursday, 4 October, 2018, as recommended by the Joint Council/Senate (Academic) Disciplinary Committee.

The lecturers guilty of the offense are: Dr. Odubunmi Ayoola Sunkanmi, Associate Professor, Department of Economics; Dr. Ogunwande Isiaka Ajani, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Dr. Gbeleyi Emmanuel Orilade, Lecturer II, Department of Anatomy, Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, Lagos.

According to reports from the institution, one of the affected lecturers, Odubunmi, had allegedly invited his victim to his office on a Saturday, to rewrite a failed examination exam, locked his door, and started romancing the student.

The student had earlier been bugged with secret cameras and other gadgets, which gave the university officials the opportunity to catch him red handed.

According a source, the student, who was constantly been disturbed by the lecturer, had approached a NGO to seek intervention,then the NGO was said to have notified the university management, which in turn promised to ‘play along’ towards catching the lecturer red handed.
