Jose Mourinho speaks out on Zinedine Zidane after missing out on Real Madrid job

Jose Mourinho insists he supports Real Madrid’s decision to appoint Zinedine Zidane as their new manager.

Mourinho, who was sacked by Manchester United in December, had been in talks with Madrid president Florentino Perez regarding a return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

But key figures in Madrid’s hierarchy were against Mourinho being granted a second stint in charge, while senior players in the dressing room, including captain Sergio Ramos, raised concerns about the move.

Instead, Perez opted to re-appoint Zidane, who stepped down as manager at the end of last season after guiding Madrid to their third consecutive Champions League trophy.

‘Zidane is perfect for Madrid and this is perfect for himself for another great opportunity to show how good he is with a new project after the fantastic things he has achieved in recent years,’ Mourinho told El Chiringuito when asked about Zidane’s appointment.

‘I just told you Zidane to Madrid is perfect.’

When asked if Madrid have given him an explanation, Mourinho said: ‘Why would they need to give me an explanation?’
