It’s wrong for anyone to think that reggae musicians are weed smokers – Root Eye

Many people in the world believe that marijuana popularly called weed is always associated with reggae musicians but according to the Director for Reggae at the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) Kwesi Nyarko Ofei who performs under the stage name Root Eye that is far from the truth.

He has therefore advised Ghanaians to stop associating weed with reggae musicians

Interacting with Showbiz recently, Root Eye said, “I don’t get it when Ghanaians associate reggae musicians with weed. It is so wrong for anyone to think that reggae musicians are weed smokers. The perception out there is that once you are a reggae musician then you definitely smoke.

According to Root Eye, it is just a perception that reggae artistes cannot do without marijuana (weed) but truth be told, many reggae artistes do not smoke.

“I know a lot of world class reggae musicians who do not smoke. The likes of Black Prophet, Lucky Dube and so many great reggae musicians do not smoke. This is a Ghanaian mentality which should be wiped away quickly,”

The former co-host of TV3 ‘Music Music’ show said reggae musicians have to let the world know through their songs that weed is not associated with them.
