Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in ‘serious condition’ in hospital

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is in “serious condition” in hospital.

He was rushed to hospital this morning after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

It is understood that he has undergone surgery.

Sir Alex, was manager of Manchester United between 1986 and 2013, winning 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League titles.

He is widely regarded as one of the greatest football managers of all time.

His son, Doncaster manager Darren Ferguson missed his side’s final game of the League One season against Wigan due to “family reasons”.

Rovers announced just prior to kick-off on Saturday that their boss would not be in attendance at the Keepmoat Stadium.

A club statement read: “Rovers manager Darren Ferguson will not be at Saturday’s game due to family reasons.

“(Assistant manager) Gavin Strachan will oversee the final game of the Sky Bet League One season in the manager’s absence.

“Darren asks for privacy, and will provide an update through the club during the week.”

His Doncaster side were beaten 1-0 by Wigan, who were confirmed as League One champions.
