The Gunners overturned a 3-1 away defeat to the French side with an impressive 3-0 victory at the Emirates last night to book their place in the last eight of the Europa League.
Two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, either side of an Ainsley Maitland-Niles strike, saw Unai Emery’s side through.
But despite the solid performance, fans aren’t happy with Arsenal star Iwobi after his actions in the third minute of stoppage time.
After a relatively tame coming together with Rennes star Hamari Traore, the Nigerian winger backed away from his opposite number, holding his nose as if to gesture that Traore had bad breath.
The Rennes right-back didn’t react to the incident but Arsenal star Sead Kolasinac swiftly moved in to defuse the situation.
And while some fans found Iwobi’s actions funny, many on social media condemned the 22-year-old.
Also unfolding at the Emirates last night:
“@alexiwobi that was some disgusting act you pulled there. You’re a good player but then show some maturity,” one Arsenal supporter tweeted.
“Why, why, why Iwobi. Why!!!” said one.
“Very rude and unprofessional, even if the mouth didn’t smell nice,” another wrote.
