Manchester United’s chances of signing Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil in the January transfer window have been dashed, according to reports.
Ozil has been linked with a move away from the Emirates after an inconsistent start to the season in north London – but ESPN suggest the former Germany international has chosen to remain at the Emirates and will fight for his place despite reports linking him with a transfer.
United were the bookies’ favourites to sign Ozil in December but any hopes the Reds may have had of attracting the midfielder to Old Trafford have been quashed.
Meanwhile, 33-year-old defender Ashley Young has been linked with a surprise move away from United to Inter Milan.
The Mirror say the Serie A side are looking at Young, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
United are in talks with the England international over an extension, but he can talk to clubs outside of England from January 1.
If Young was to leave, he would do so on a free transfer, but the report says he wants to stay to add to his 222 appearances for the club to date.
