Abdelaziz Bouteflika writes apology letter to Algerians

Outgoing President of Algeria, Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Wednesday tendered an apology letter  to the Algerian people which was published by state media after he resigned as president in the face of huge protests.

He said in the letter released by the APS news agency, “I leave the political stage without sadness or fear for the future of our country”.

This apology followed  his resignation on Wednesday where Algeria’s Constitutional Council officially accepted it after nearly six weeks of unprecedented protests sparked by his bid for a fifth term.

The ailing leader’s resignation came a day after the army demanded that the President should be impeached.
